Heat-resistant FPC

Oki Electric Cable Co., Ltd. (President: Masasuke Kishi, Head Office: Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa-ken, hereafter referred to as Oki Electric Cable) has recently developed the "heat-resistant FPC (*1)", an FPC that withstands use in high-temperature environments previously considered impossible. Oki Electric Cable will commence sales of this product on 1 June, 2016. This product supports continuous use of 1,000 hours under a high-temperature environment of 150 degrees Celsius.

The FPC allows high-density wiring and features excellent batch connectivity, flexibility and lightweight/thin properties and is widely used for compact/movable wiring and circuit boards in smartphones and other electronic devices. In recent years, there is an increasing need for FPCs in equipment used under high-temperature environments, as they increasingly require higher density wiring and further compactness. These equipment include the power supply of motors equipped on medical and industrial equipment that require heat sterilization, as well as lighting equipment that are becoming increasingly diverse. However, conventional FPCs support operating temperatures of up to 80 degrees Celsius and cannot facilitate the needs for use in high-temperature environments.

The "heat-resistant FPC" recently developed by Oki Electric Cable is designed to withstand a continuous use of 1,000 hours in high-temperature environments of up to 150 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the FPC remained electrically functional and maintained excellent adhesive strength (JPCA standard: 3.4N/cm or greater) in its insulation coating after "1,000 hours in 150 degrees Celsius", thanks to combinations of proprietary lamination and surface treatment technologies with heat-resistant materials. The "heat-resistant FPC" supports both single-sided and double-sided plates as well as direct use of the existing design criteria, enabling designs to be built in the same conventional manner.

The "heat-resistant FPC" provides new wiring styles in the areas of medical, lighting and industrial equipment in high-temperature environments previously considered impossible, by leveraging the inherent high-density wiring capabilities and batch connectivity and lightweight/thin properties of FPCs. Oki Electric Cable will continue to actively develop new products to accommodate the constantly diversifying customer needs.

This product will be exhibited at the "JPCA Show 2016" (Booth No.5F-20) which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight from Wednesday 1 - Friday 3 June, 2016.
