Oki Electric Cable Unveils High-performance Robot Cable
- Company achieves 10-fold higher flex with proprietary new material -
Kawasaki, Japan, December 13, 2007 -- Oki Electric Cable Co., Ltd. (TSE: 5815) today announced it has succeeded in developing "OR Super," an ultra high-flex cable that achieves higher flexibility than the high-flex FA cables, which use fluorine insulator. The product is available starting today.
As manufacturing processes using machine tools are becoming more diverse, the load for movable cables is increasing, resulting in disconnection faults. Therefore, requirement for higher performance cables for robot users is increasing.
"By offering the market the OR Super, a high-performance cable with ultra high flex, Oki Electric Cable will respond to the needs for higher performance cable among robot users," said Takashi Hattori, President of Oki Electric Cable. "We will continue to enhance our high-flex performance while offering this cable at a low cost and being friendly to the environment. We will actively provide this product to the FA cable market and establish a stronger brand as well as increase our market share,"
To develop this high-flex cable, Oki Electric Cable uses a new special elastomer, developed for many years, as an insulator material. The company is the first in the industry to apply it to FA cables. This special elastomer has a significantly higher flexibility, strength and slide function, and unlike the fluoroplastic, it does not contain a halogen, and is therefore more environment-friendly. Moreover, it can be offered at a lower price with higher performance. Other materials were also selected to achieve higher flexibility. Oki Electric Cable chose a flame resistant polyurethane elastomer for the sheath material and adjusted it so the flame resistance is verified according to the UL vertical wire (VW)-1 standard.
