OKI Electric Cable Unveils a Non-shielded,Noise Resistant Motor drive Cable
- Succeeds in thinner and lighter cables by doubling the recovery efficiency of conduction noise current when compared with conventional cables -
KANAGAWA, Japan, October 21, 2008 -- Oki Electric Cable Co., Ltd. (TSE: 5815) today announced, together with Fanuc Ltd., the two companies succeeded in developing a motor drive cable based on their proprietary cable structure that significantly reduces the impact of conducted noise caused by inverter switching. Compared to conventional servomotor drive inverter cable, the newly developed cable (Product name: Symmetric Motor drive Cable 'SYM Series,' joint patent pending in Japan and overseas) can double the recovery efficiency of conducted noise current. Sales of this product start today.
"We are pleased to unveil the new non-shielded noise-resistant motor drive cable jointly developed by OKI Electric Cable and Fanuc. With our proprietary cable structure, we succeeded in achieving an industry-first high recovery rate of conducted noise current by making the inductance of the ground cable small," said Takashi Hattori, President of OKI Electric cable. "We also take environmental conservation activities seriously, and are developing products without hazardous substances. This cable also bans all six subject substances in Europe's RoHS Directive."
While inverter switching speed becomes faster, conducted noise tend to increase as well. Conventional cables have low noise current recovery efficiency because the ground cable impedance is large, causing peripheral equipment likely to malfunction from conducted noise. To avoid this, in general, thick ground cables or several ground cables are connected in parallel or braided wired and shield cables are applied. However, the coating of shields can be costly, and can degrade the nature of construction because it adds another step for coating and the external diameter of the cables are thick and hard.
The "SYM Series" achieve a noise current recovery efficiency that is equivalent to a shielded cable by reducing the ground cable inductance to a shielded cable level. While the cable is a maximum of 15% thinner, and 20% lighter than that of a shielded cable, the noise current recovery efficiency is equivalent to a shielded cable. Because the SYM Series eliminate the need for shielding, which adds another step when processing the terminal, the cable increases flexibility and significantly improves the nature of cabling construction.
