Kawasaki, Japan, June 12, 2007 -- Oki Electric Cable Co., Ltd. (TSE: 5815) today unveiled a high-speed transmission flexible printed circuit (FPC). This shield-structured FPC achieves an industry first 3Gbps transmission speed.

As digital electronic equipment become thinner, smaller, lighter and more sophisticated, a large amount of data must be transferred even more clearly and at faster speeds. Such large volume data transmission is forcing high-speed wiring systems to shift into the gigabit transmission level. Though coaxial cables have been used for high-speed lines, the problems were its thickness and heavy weight. These problems, however, can be solved by replacing coaxial cables with FPCs.

OKI's first-in-the-industry 3Gbps high-speed FPC for gigabit transmission adopts shield structure, reducing noise by 50% from the level of conventional FPCs. In addition, by strengthening the shield function, Oki Electric Cable was able to reduce reflection and cross-talk, achieve a structure that is light and thin with multiple cores and that can be even folded.

"Our new product suits intelligent display system for automobiles such as Car-navigation system which requires high speed, and large volume data transmission," said Takashi Hattori, President of Oki Electric Cable.
